About the Challenge
Aurelie Maron is a wonderful, incredibly talented, and well-known lettering artist from Australia. ❣️ I’ve been following her for quite a while — on Instagram, through her newsletter, and on YouTube — and I also own some of her courses and digital products. 🥰
For the past few years, she has been hosting the Lettering Style Challenge every October, providing 31 prompts that participants can interpret and create based on their own skills and preferences. This means that throughout October, you create one artwork per day inspired by the given prompt. ✍️
There’s also a matching course called Lettering Style Secrets, which I’m attending this year — it’s been a big dream of mine! 💖 Of course, there are some amazing prizes to win, but above all, there’s so much to learn. 🤓
I chose the topic of video games so that I could use them as backgrounds for my works, as well as the colors of their lettering (partially, not always). And yes, we (my husband and I) have played almost all of these games or are still playing some of them. 😆
In addition, I have recreated the entire alphabet (including &) and the numbers 0–9. As a beginner, I initially wanted to focus on individual letters and numbers. 🔠 In the future, however, I can also imagine working with whole words or even lettering (such as cool phrases or similar). 🙂
Prompt List and Guide 2025
Aurelie provides both a list and a guide every year. The guide explains the individual font styles and shows examples. I would like to make these available to you here.
Games A – Z & 0 – 9
Below are my works, along with the relevant details about the games. 🎮
A to E
A – Animal Crossing: New Horizons / Alien: Isolation
My favorite and so far second most played video game is Animal Crossing. 💘 I even met my best friend and maid of honor through it. 😉 We’ve also played Alien twice already, and it’s always great for a good scare. 👽
B – BioShock / Borderlands
BioShock is such an exciting and dark video game series, and we just love coming back to it. ☺️ Today’s prompt felt so perfect for BioShock, since the Little Sisters always call the Big Daddies (the protectors of the little girls) ‘Mr. Bubbles.’ 😉
C – Cyberpunk 2077 / Cloudpunk / Coral Island / Cozy Grove
Cyberpunk 2077 is definitely one of our all-time favorite games — we’ve even finished it 100% twice, once as male V and once as female V. 😉 The graphics are breathtaking, the characters amazing, and the story is just so thrilling. Absolutely recommend it! 👌
I’m also still totally hooked on Cloudpunk, Coral Island, and Cozy Grove — love playing them to this day! 🥰
D – Dave the Diver / Death Stranding / Dreamlight Valley
Dave the Diver is just the cutest game — my lovely Sunny recommended it to me. You dive for fish and then run your own sushi restaurant. It’s super sweet, exciting, and so much fun! 🐟🍣
We also really enjoyed Death Stranding with its unique story — plus the adorable Norman Reedus in the lead role (and Mads Mikkelsen making it extra thrilling!). 👌
And of course, Dreamlight Valley is a must-play for every Disney fan — just pure cuteness and magic! ✨
E – Expedition 33 (Clair Obscur: Expedition 33)
Expedition 33 is the game we’re totally obsessed with right now! We’re almost at the end, and the mysterious story is finally starting to unfold. The characters are amazing, the soundtrack is absolutely phenomenal (fingers crossed they’ll bring the orchestra to Germany! 🤞🎶), and the whole vibe is just incredible. Honestly — it’s a MASTERPIECE! 💫🎮
F to J
F – Fallout / Fae Farm / Final Fantasy
Fallout might be a bit older by now, but we still love that universe so much! We totally binged the show and even got addicted to the mobile game. 😄 The dark setting mixed with that sharp, sarcastic humor just never gets old. 👌
Of course, I played Final Fantasy back in the day — Part 7 was my absolute favorite. Such amazing memories! 💕🎮
Fae Farm is a more recent game and it’s just the cutest, coziest thing ever. 🧚♀️ It’s surprisingly deep too — not just farming with magic, but a whole magical world to get lost in. Definitely one to take your time with, and so worth it! ✨🌿
G – Ghostwire: Tokyo / Go-Go Town!
Ghostwire: Tokyo is so underrated!! 👻💫 We absolutely LOVED it and spent countless hours going for that sweet 100% completion — and honestly, it never got boring because there’s just soooo much to collect! ✨ The Tokyo setting and the story are absolutely stunning, and we learned tons about Japanese myths and food along the way. 🍡🗼
Then there’s Go-Go Town! — I randomly discovered it while I was sick with the flu 🤒 and instantly got hooked! It’s super chill, really cute, and keeps growing the more you play. 🌸🏙️ Such a cozy little gem — totally recommend if you’re into relaxing games with adorable vibes! 💕🎮
H – Horizon: Zero Dawn / Halo / Heavy Rain
I love Horizon and Halo for their stunning visuals, awesome stories, amazing main characters, and that whole sci-fi vibe (I’m such a sci-fi nerd 😄).
Heavy Rain honestly blew me away — not just because your choices actually shape the story and the ending, but because it’s one of the few games with a really unpredictable and super intense plot. Definitely check them out if they’re still on your wishlist! 🎮✨
I – Indiana Jones and the Great Circle / It takes two
We blasted through the new Indiana Jones and the Great Circle in no time — it just completely hooked us! 😄 The story’s super exciting, the graphics look amazing, and Indy’s jokes are as legendary as ever.🤠 We haven’t tried the DLC yet, but that’s definitely coming soon — the whole game just feels so perfectly put together. 🎮✨
It Takes Two is such a cute and clever co-op game — a 2021 action-adventure with a surprisingly deep and emotional story.👫 We haven’t finished it yet, but we keep coming back to this award-winning gem every chance we get. 💕
J – Jurassic World Evolution 2 / Just Dance
I’m a huge dinosaur fan 🦖 (you’re never too old for that, right? 😉) and I absolutely love the Jurassic Park & World movies — so of course I’m obsessed with the games too! 😄 The graphics are insane, the controls can be a bit tricky (just because there’s so much you can do and see), but the overall vibe is amazing! 🦕 I really wish there was a VR version so I could actually walk through my own parks and admire the dinos up close. 😍
And then there’s Just Dance — the ultimate fun fitness dance game that never fails to make me laugh and get me moving. 💃
K to O
K – Kirby / Kena: Bridge of Spirits
Kirby has always been one of my childhood favorites. 😉 With the newest Kirby game, I finally returned to my Switch after a really long break (since Animal Crossing, I’ve only played my beloved Pikmin on it 🥰 — otherwise, I’m all about my Steam Deck 🎮). As you’d expect from Kirby, it’s absolutely adorable — the graphics are beautiful, and the levels are both challenging and super fun. 👌💗
Kena: Bridge of Spirits was recommended to me by several friends, and everyone says it’s amazing! 😲 I actually grabbed it on sale on Steam already, but I want to finish another game first so I can really take my time and enjoy it properly. 😉
L – L.A. Noire / Life is Strange / Lego
L.A. Noire totally fascinated me with its detective vibes, vintage atmosphere, and deep story — I love solving cases and reading people’s faces! 🕵️♀️
Life is Strange hit me right in the feels — such emotional storytelling, amazing characters, and that bittersweet coming-of-age feeling that sticks with you long after playing. 🌧💫
And the LEGO games? Just pure fun! No matter which one, they always make me smile — cozy, creative, and full of charm. 🧱✨
M – Minecraft / Mario Kart / Minami Lane / Metroid Prime
Minecraft is pure creativity — endless worlds, cozy building sessions, and that relaxing ‘just one more block’ feeling. ⛏️✨
Mario Kart is my go-to for fun chaos with friends — nothing beats the thrill (and friendly rage 😅) of throwing a blue shell at just the right time! 🏎️🍌
Minami Lane is super cute and cozy — I love the calm atmosphere, adorable design, and that wholesome vibe that makes you instantly relax. 🍡🌸
And Metroid Prime? A true classic! I adore the exploration, the sci-fi mystery, and the powerful feeling of stepping into Samus’s suit. 🚀🧡
N – No Man’s Sky / Ni no Kuni
No Man’s Sky is pure freedom — exploring endless planets, discovering strange creatures, and just drifting through space with the most beautiful music playing. It’s so peaceful and breathtaking. 🚀🌌
Ni no Kuni, on the other hand, is pure Studio Ghibli charm — heartwarming, emotional, and full of that cozy fantasy feeling. The art, the story, the characters… it’s all just so beautiful. 💕🌿
O – Ori and the Blind Forest / Oni
Ori and the Blind Forest is simply breathtaking — the visuals, the music, the emotions… it’s one of those games that touches your heart and stays with you forever. It’s beautiful, sad, and hopeful all at once. 🕊️💧
Oni, on the other hand, is such a fun and unique experience — full of energy, quirky charm, and that special spark that makes it stand out. It’s one of those games that you play with a smile the whole time. ⚡🎮
P to T
P – Portal / Planet Crafter / Pikmin
Portal is just iconic — that perfect mix of clever puzzles, dark humor, and a story that sticks with you. I’ll never get tired of hearing ‘the cake is a lie!’ 🍰🌀
Planet Crafter is pure relaxation for me — exploring, building, and slowly turning a barren planet into something alive and beautiful. It’s so peaceful and rewarding. 🌍✨
And Pikmin… oh, my beloved Pikmin! 🥹💐 Cute, strategic, and a little emotional — I’ve adored these tiny plant friends since forever, and I still can’t get enough of them. 💚🌱
Q – Quantum Break / Quake
For the letter Q, it actually wasn’t that easy to find video games — but these two are right at the top of our to-play list, and they sound really amazing! 😄🎮
Quantum Break looks super interesting with its mix of gameplay and live-action storytelling, plus the fact that it’s part of the Alan Wake universe makes it even more exciting. 🎬🌀
And Quake — an absolute classic! We can’t wait to finally try it out and experience that legendary fast-paced action everyone talks about. 💀🔥
R – Red Dead Redemption / Rayman
Red Dead Redemption is such a masterpiece 🤠 — that mix of wild west atmosphere, stunning landscapes 🌅, and emotional storytelling just hits different. The world feels so alive, and the characters stay with you long after you stop playing 🐎. We can’t wait to dive back into that dusty, cinematic world again someday. 🎬✨
Rayman, on the other hand, is pure joy and nostalgia 🌈! Those colorful levels 🎨, fun challenges, and quirky characters never fail to make us smile 😄. It’s one of those games that just feels timeless — cozy, creative, and full of heart. 💕
S – Stalker / STAR WARS Jedi: Fallen Order™ / Sims / Stray
STALKER has such an intense atmosphere ☢️ — eerie, mysterious, and full of tension. We really enjoyed exploring the dangerous zones, scavenging for gear, and soaking in that haunting post-apocalyptic mood 🌫️🎮. It’s dark, challenging, and totally immersive — one of those games that stays with you long after playing.
STAR WARS Jedi: Fallen Order™ is pure action and adventure ⚔️✨. And as a huge Star Wars fangirl 💫, this one was extra special for me! The world-building, lightsaber fights, and emotional story really pull you in — it’s such a perfect blend of the Star Wars universe and great gameplay 🌌✨.
The Sims is a true classic 🏡 — a game we’ve loved for ages. Creating worlds, families, and absolute chaos (let’s be honest 😅) never gets old. It’s cozy, creative, and full of little stories every time you play 💕.
And Stray… oh, Stray 🐈💛. What a beautiful and touching experience! Exploring a cyberpunk city through the eyes of a cat is something truly special. It’s emotional, atmospheric, and just unforgettable 🌆✨.
T – The Last of Us / Tomb Raider / Tetris / Tekken
The Last of Us is one of those games that stays with you forever 💔🎮. The emotional depth, the breathtaking storytelling, and the incredible connection between the characters make it an absolute masterpiece. It’s dark, beautiful, and unforgettable — definitely one of the best gaming experiences out there 🌿🦋.
Tomb Raider has been a favorite for years 🏹 — from the classic adventures to the stunning reboots, Lara Croft never fails to impress. Exploring ancient tombs, solving puzzles, and discovering hidden treasures always feels epic ⚒️✨.
Tetris might be simple, but it’s pure gaming history 🎲. It’s timeless, addictive, and still one of the best ways to just relax and challenge your brain at the same time 🧩🕹️.
And Tekken — oh, the memories! 🥋🔥 Fast-paced fights, iconic characters, and that perfect mix of nostalgia and action. Whether casual fun or serious button-mashing competition, Tekken always delivers 👊😄.
U to Z , &
U – Unpacking / Uncharted
Unpacking is such a cozy and surprisingly emotional game 📦💖. It’s calm, thoughtful, and full of little storytelling moments hidden in everyday objects. There’s something so satisfying about slowly unpacking boxes and discovering a person’s life through the things they own 🏠✨.
Uncharted, on the other hand, is pure adventure! 🧭🔥 We absolutely love the action, humor, and breathtaking locations — it feels like being part of an epic movie. Nathan Drake’s charm, the puzzles, and the cinematic storytelling make it one of those series you just can’t forget 🎬💎.
V – Valheim
Valheim is such an amazing survival game — beautiful, mysterious, and surprisingly peaceful at times (well… until a troll shows up 😅). My husband loves exploring the world, building cozy Viking homes, and discovering all the little secrets hidden in the forests and mountains. 🌲⚒️
There’s just something so special about sitting by the fire after a long adventure, watching the sun set over your base. It’s pure magic. 🪵🔥✨
W – Worms / Wii Sports / The Witcher
Worms is pure nostalgia for me — that mix of strategy, chaos, and hilarious moments never gets old. 💣🐛 Whether it’s a perfectly timed banana bomb or a dramatic “Oops!”, it’s always guaranteed fun with friends. 😄🎯
Wii Sports will forever be a classic! 🏓🎳 I still remember the joy (and mild chaos 😂) of playing bowling or tennis with friends and family — it’s one of those games that just makes everyone smile.
And The Witcher… what a masterpiece. 🐺✨ The story, the atmosphere, the music, and of course Geralt — everything about it feels epic and beautifully crafted. It’s one of those worlds you can get completely lost in. ⚔️🌙
X – Xenoblade Chronicles / X-COM
Xenoblade Chronicles is such a breathtaking adventure 🌄 — the world, the story, the characters, and that incredible music 🎶… it all just feels so epic and emotional 💕✨. Every time I play, I get completely lost in its beauty and depth.
X-COM, on the other hand, is pure tactical brilliance 🧠🚀 — challenging, intense, and super rewarding when your strategy finally pays off 🎯. It keeps you on your toes the whole time, and every victory feels so well earned 💪.
Y – Yoshi’s Island / Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles
Yoshi’s Island is pure childhood joy 🍓💚 — colorful, charming, and full of that classic Nintendo magic ✨. I still remember the cheerful music and those adorable little Yoshis 🥹🐣 — it’s one of those games that always makes me smile.
Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles is such a peaceful and cozy adventure 🌸🌿. Exploring the beautiful open world, helping villagers, and simply enjoying the calm atmosphere feels so relaxing 💕🍃. It’s the perfect game to unwind after a long day. 🌈🎮
Z – The Legend of Zelda
The Legend of Zelda will forever be one of the greatest game series of all time 🗡️💚. The worlds are so rich and full of life, the music gives me chills every single time 🎶🌿, and every adventure feels truly magical. ✨
Whether it’s Ocarina of Time, Breath of the Wild, or Tears of the Kingdom — each one holds a special place in my heart 💕🪄. There’s just something about exploring Hyrule that never stops feeling like home. 🏞️🕊️
& – Life is Strange
Life is Strange – an emotional, story-driven adventure about choices, friendship, and time travel. 🎞️💫 Step into Max’s shoes as she discovers she can rewind time — and see how every decision changes everything. Beautiful visuals, powerful music, and all the feels. 🌧️🦋
Now that I’ve made it through the whole alphabet (so proud of my perseverance, honestly!), I’m moving on to the numbers 0–9. 🥰 Since there aren’t many games with numbers in their titles anyway, I’ll just take this chance to give a shout-out to some of my all-time favorites again. 😉

I’m so proud of my results, my perseverance, and my motivation to see such a wonderful project through to the end. 💪🖋️
I’m absolutely hyped about all the amazing and diverse styles and letters I got to explore — and there’s no doubt I’ll be continuing on this creative journey! 💕🔥
My Learnings from the Challenge
| Category | Styles |
|---|---|
| These are the styles I love 💖 | Script, Bubble, Serif, Sans Serif, Negative Space, Dotted, Neon, Flared Serifs, Art Deco, Bevel, Bauhaus, Pixel, Space |
| These are the styles I like 💕 | Showcard, Y2K, Punk, Blackletter, Horror, Multiline, Flourishes, Contrast, Tropical, Steampunk, Automobile |
| These are the styles I don’t like 💔 | Spur, Medieval |
| Neutral feelings 😐 | Aztec, Floral, Fileteado, Western, Rococo, Arabic, Slavic, Ornate, Ampersand, Tattoo, Circus |
| I want to dive deeper into 🔍 | Aztec, Showcard, Y2K, Negative Space, Neon, Blackletter, Flared Serifs, Art Deco, Flourishes, Bauhaus, Contrast, Pixel, Tropical, Space, Automobile |
- Constraints on the theme (October 2025: video games, which then provided the backgrounds and partially the colors) and on the execution (alphabet, phrases, book covers, movie/song titles, turning prompts into words, etc.) are extremely helpful during the creative process! They save a lot of time, as you don’t get lost searching for backgrounds, colors, or phrases.
- It is essential to think through and decide on the theme and execution beforehand. This preparation saves a lot of time during the creative process
- Prompts that I initially thought were silly or uninteresting often turned out to be very exciting during the creative process. I enjoyed 95% of my works, especially immersing myself in the concept, researching, and bringing them to life.
- Styles that I didn’t like at first, I ended up loving while working with them, including:
- Serif (I never liked it before, only since I started lettering — crazy, right?)
- Blackletter (I thought it wasn’t for me at all because it looks so dark and heavy, but the broad strokes from the wide nib are really elegant and beautiful)
- Many ideas for implementing or decorating the letters (whether from me or my husband) initially seemed impossible, but through experimenting, I was always able to make them work and felt very proud of the results.
- Daily practice builds confidence in your work and definitely makes you better, faster, and more skilled.
- I made three wonderful new contacts through the challenge on Instagram who comment on and even read my posts! That made me very happy. I enjoy chatting with them via DMs, and we love exchanging ideas, inspiring, and helping each other.
- Regular posting brings more views than expected, but hardly any more followers, even during a big challenge by a very well-known artist.
- Through the challenge, I had private contact (via Instagram) with Johannes Belach, which was very nice and inspiring.
- When I paint, I get so deeply immersed in the creative flow for hours that I don’t notice anything around me! My husband has noticed this too — I just hope he doesn’t use it for any confessions in the future. 😉
- You learn something new every time, even if you think you’ve already done shadows or similar techniques 100 times — something new always comes up.
- Routine brings speed.
- Being creative brings happiness.
- Working at least 1–2 days (or up to 4) in advance is important, as there will inevitably be 2–3 days during such a long period when you don’t get around to it. Nevertheless, you stay on schedule with timing and execution, since something can still be posted every day.
- Challenges are incredibly fun, get you into action, and help build a regular routine.
- Comparisons with others are major triggers (“everyone else is soooo much better than me…”, “I hope I don’t embarrass myself with my beginner works…”), but they are also helpful teachers (“I want to get that good too”, “what amazing artists, styles, and alphabets there are to discover”) and a great source of motivation (“I want to be able to do something this amazing too, I have to try this and that”, “I want to master these wonderful styles professionally and create my own fonts”).
Conclusion
I had an absolutely amazing time with the challenge and I am incredibly proud of myself. 💖 Proud of my works, my progress, my perseverance, my motivation to extend even more days, and my courage to share my creations. ❣️ Although I unfortunately didn’t win the giveaway, that doesn’t diminish my enthusiasm for the challenge in the slightest. Maybe I’ll win next time — I will definitely participate again. 🥰
The challenge has left me extremely hyped and motivated to continue pursuing my beloved hobby of hand lettering. 💞 I love fonts, their various styles, and design possibilities — it’s simply AMAZING — and I want to dive deep into everything and learn as much as possible to create really beautiful and professional large-scale letterings (posters, boards, phrases, etc.). 😍
And now my questions for you, dear audience. 😉 How do you like my works? Do you know all the games, and which ones have you played or fallen in love with yourself? Does one of them perhaps even get you hooked? Do you have any ideas or wishes for what you’d like to see me letter next? How did you like my contribution? Please write all this, and even more, in the comments — I would be overjoyed!
Thank you so much for your interest and for reading my post — I hope you enjoyed it!
Yours,
Ani
